Britteny Cuevas
Britteny Cuevas is of Mvskoke (Muscogee) and O-Gah-Pah (Quapaw) descent. She is of the Turtle Clan and her tribal town is Concharty. Having grown up in a Native American environment, she is passionate about cultural preservation and pursuit in arts within her tribe. She practices Southeastern Native American traditional arts, including basket weaving, making corn husk people, gourd art, turtle shell making, bow making, leather work and moccasin making. She is a painter, poet and lyricist. Cuevas attended Bacone College (one of the oldest Native American Colleges) and has an associate degree in Native American Arts & Early Childhood Development. She also attended the College of the Muscogee Nation and has an associate degree in Native American Studies and a Mvskoke Language Certificate; at Northeastern State University, she studied Indigenous Permaculture and received a Design Certificate. In 2019, her work was in the ARTesian Arts Festival, where she received second place in the basket weaving division. Cuevas participates in Mvskoke hymn singing, Stomp Dance and coaches a Stickball Team called “Frybread Steelers.”
