Ronald Mitchell

Ronald Mitchell is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and currently lives on the Cherokee Nation Reservation on Lake Tenkiller in Oklahoma. Mitchell is a self-taught, artist working in metal, ink, gouache and acrylic paint, using airbrush, drybrush and drawing techniques based on Native American Flat Style and Ledger Art. He takes inspiration from artists such as M.C. Escher as well as Asian art. Mitchell is an award-winning artist and has been a fixture in Native American art shows for over five decades. Mitchell's style evolved into using the full spectrum of colors in his paintings, despite being red-green color blind. He creates images that incorporate history by telling stories that resonated with both Cherokees and art collectors. His work has been featured in numerous calendars, book illustrations and book covers, and is in museums and private collections around the world, including; the late Phyllis Diller, actor Tom Berenger, the Wichita Kansas Indian Museum and throughout the Cherokee Nation.
