Jody Bradley Lipscomb
Jody Bradley Lipscomb was born and lived most of her life on the Qualla Boundary also known as the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina. She is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. She was instilled with a strong sense of community and the desire to give back to her people. Her work focuses on Cherokee women and their lives, presented with a sense of reverence. She employs the Cherokee syllabary in her work and often paints Cherokee legends. She has a modern style often utilizing black backgrounds. She does not paint faces, which may be connected to her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Lipscomb taught Home Economics at Cherokee High School and worked as a Community Health Educator and Health Administrator. She finished her career as the Public Relations Director for the Cherokee Indian Hospital. After her retirement in 2015, she began painting with acrylics.
